The past decade has seen a turning point in our relationship with materials, from design to manufacturing, with materials gradually reclaiming their central role in the creative process and beginning to dictate form rather than simply adapt to it. The exhibition explores the power of materials, which use the sense of touch to convey emotion and energy. It draws on the so-called “neo-materialist” movement, which reasserts the centuries-old beliefs that materials have their own force and exude an energy that people can genuinely feel.

FASHIONED FROM NATURE | Special exhibition at the Geological Museum
13 APRIL – 1 SEPTEMBER 2019
Fashioned from Nature premiered at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and Copenhagen is the first stop on the tour.
Throughout, Fashioned from Nature highlights the role of campaigners in raising awareness of the negative impact of fashion, from the founding members of the Royal Society for the Preservation of Birds to Katharine Hamnett and Vivienne Westwood. Importantly, it focuses on solutions and draws attention to the exciting interdisciplinary research taking place today which is driving the development of cleaner, less wasteful processes and materials.
